Event Details

As gardeners, we love plants. Some might say we are obsessed with plants. But how do we get the best plants for our gardens? How much do we know about how plants are grown, trialed and brought to market, especially since plants are getting more expensive by the year?

Landscape Designer, Columnist for West Hartford Magazine, and lifelong gardener Karla Dalley will help you understand the difference between plant growers, marketers, plant trialsand ultimately help you understand what to look for at a garden center near you!

Please join us for this event presented by The Arbor Garden Club of Clinton.

About the Speaker: Karla's first gardening experience dates back to when she was three and she used to run ahead of her Dad’s reel mower “saving” the Johnny Jump Ups from being mowed under. Her first paying job was also in “horticulture” when at the tender age of 11 she was paid the princely sum of $1 a week to deadhead her neighbor’s numerous pots of petunias.

She taught gardening at Capital Community College where she offered various one-hour courses on gardening, both at their Hartford campus and throughout the community. She currently lectures to homeowner's associations, garden clubs, women's groups, nurseries, and in various special places like Gardeners Supply in Burlington, Vermont.

Currently, Karla is the garden columnist for We-Ha Magazine and the Book Reviewer for the Connecticut Horticulture Society, as well as the sole author of an organic gardening blog, “Gardendaze.”

Her backyard is certified as a Backyard Habitat by both the Connecticut Dept. of Environmental Protection (Certification #22) and the National Wildlife Federation (Certification # 34,999). She has been a totally organic gardener since 1994.
