Directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, Rebecca won two Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Cinematography. Based on Daphne du Maurier's novel, Rebecca tells the story of a timid young woman who marries the handsome and wealthy widower Maxim de Winter. When they return to his estate, it becomes apparent that Rebecca, the first Mrs. de Winter, still has a strange, almost supernatural hold over everyone in Maxim's life.
