Please join us on March 12th @ 1:00 pm in the HCH Community Room to discuss Poverty By America by Matthew Desmond. This book examines the question why the United States, the richest country on earth, has more poverty than any other advanced democracy.  Why does this land of plenty allow one in every eight of its children to go without basic necessities, permit scores of its citizens to live on the streets, and allow its corporations to pay poverty wages?   Told is compelling stories, this book  lays out public policies, laws, and tax breaks to show how the U.S. actually spends big on social programs,  but gives the most to those who need it the least.    Copies of the book are available at HCH Library or by placing a hold HERE.
