Connecticut Ballet’s ‘Backstage at the Ballet’ is a perfect introduction to the art of classical ballet and its practitioners for children ages 4-12. Artistic Director Brett Raphael opens the program with a group stretch on the floor. Then a couple from the professional company demonstrate simple ballet vocabulary followed by a brief segment featuring partnering between the male and female.
Raphael then narrates an excerpt from ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ and continues with a jazz segment, ‘Goose Pimples.’ In between, he reads a delightful children’s book, Ballerino Nate. The program concludes with a five-minute q & a between the audience and the dancers.
